Welcome! I’m Jeroen Morsink, a dedicated educator with over 15 years of experience in teaching. My teaching career has focused on Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. Subjects I am deeply passionate about.
My Teaching Journey
Throughout my career, I’ve taught at many bilingual schools in the Netherlands and also in Hong Kong. This has helped me learn a lot about different ways to teach and understand how culture plays a role in education. Right now, I’m teaching at Scala College in Alphen aan den Rijn.
The Importance of Language in the Science Classroom
In the science classroom, my approach goes beyond just teaching scientific concepts. I emphasise the critical role of language in discussing and understanding these concepts. As a science teacher, I recognise that I’m not only imparting knowledge in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, but also teaching the language needed to effectively talk and think about these sciences. This focus on language, particularly on CALP (Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency), has been a cornerstone in both my Dutch and English classes.
A Journey into CLIL Coaching
The transition to becoming a CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) coach was a natural progression for me. It stemmed from my desire to share my passion for science and language with other educators. As a CLIL coach, I aim to empower teachers to integrate language learning seamlessly into their subject teaching, enhancing both the academic and linguistic prowess of their students.
CLIL Coaching: Simplifying for Success
Becoming a CLIL coach was a natural step for me, as I wanted to share my experiences and empower fellow educators. My key message to teachers is this: implementing CLIL in your classroom doesn’t have to be overwhelming or time-consuming. It’s a common misconception that CLIL always requires elaborate preparation, like laminated cards or complex activities.
My role as a CLIL coach is to help you find ways to make your lessons more impactful without adding a lot of extra preparation time. Together, we can find practical and straightforward ways to integrate CLIL, enhancing both language and subject learning in your classroom.
